Conflict Coaching

Conflict coaching is a one-on-one conversation with a conflict coach designed to help students gain the knowledge, skills, and tools to personally manage and resolve current or future conflicts peacefully. This process may be used to resolve a conflict (past, present); prevent an unnecessary conflict; prepare for a conflict conversation; or improve competency in conflict resolution.

Involved Parties

  • Conflict Coach - trained staff member who facilitates the process
  • Involved Party - the individual(s) or group(s) participating in the process

Guidelines

  • Participation in Conflict Coaching is voluntary and any party may withdraw from the process at any time.
  • The Conflict Coaching process is used for incidents which do not involve behavior that violates a specific University policy.
  • The University will not pressure or compel any party to participate in any form of Conflict Coaching.
  • Information obtained through Conflict Coaching will be kept private except when otherwise required by the University.

Process

Students talk about their conflict privately while their Conflict Coach helps them to identify goals, gain increased clarity, and provide helpful tools and resources for managing and resolving the conflict. Participants may complete a self-assessment with a Coach to better understand their own conflict style.
